Outline flaws:
I have to say, I do love WhatsApp. I use it as a replacement for my texting app but there are some design flaws that bother me with the current design. WhatsApp hasn’t been fully updated since the day it was released. Although, it did add on the story function which I don’t believe many people use anyways so I removed it in my redesign. I also removed the status function as I believe not many people update their status either. What I really don’t like about the current design is that there is no way to view your contacts in one place. The user has to create a new message to see them all. I added an option for the user to navigate between all chats and groups so that they have a possibility to access their groups in one place. A problem I always encountered while chatting with someone is that I always tend to tap the voice record on the bottom right by accident. I removed it and placed it in the attachments function. Voice recording isn’t a function people use everyday so it seemed unnecessary to place it there and give it so much importance. A camera function would have been better in my opinion but I just prefer not having a button there at all other than send. In the current WhatsApp design, the user has to hold on the chat and tap the info icon to view the read receipts. I redesigned that aspect so that the user just has to tap the chat bubble to see when their message was read. To make WhatsApp more user friendly, I added the option of pinning chats. The user has the option to choose whose chats they would like to always appear at the top. Another way to think of this is having “favourites”. This saves them the time and hassle of searching through their messages to find someone they talk to often.
